Social Imaginary and its Contribution to Communication Theory

Rubén Dittus (rdittus@ucsc.cl). Escuela de Periodismo de la Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (Chile)

Abstract

The present paper approaches the implications of social imaginary theory in the comprehension of communicative phenomenon and the semiotic process with six arguments. It describes the direct relationship existing between three faculties which make man a symbolic being: communication, conscious activity and imaginary construction, confirming the idea that reality is intersubjectively made up in daily practices.

Key words: social imaginary, conscience, significant reality, semiotics.
