Hindess B. 2003. Los Fines de la Ciudadanía. Cinta moebio 16: 15-24 The Purposes of Citizenship Barry Hindess. Australian National University Abstract Two conceptions of citizenship exist working in the modern world. One that visualizes like a complex package of rights and inherent responsibilities to the individuals by virtue of his belonging to an appropriate political community. Another one considers it as a mark of identification, suggesting to the state and non-state agencies the particular place to which the individual belongs. These two conceptions of citizenship are not necessarily incompatible, but they are certainly different. However, the objective of this work is to try to unite these conceptions. Key words: citizenship, modernity, rights, nation. |
